''This Is Not My Hat'' is a 2012 picture book written and illustrated by Jon Klassen, and published by Candlewick Press. ==Synopsis== In the ocean's depths, a small fish is fleeing after having stolen a bigger fish's hat. The bigger fish realizes his hat is gone and pursues the thief. The little fish swims along, pleased with the hat, hoping to escape into the thick grasses. The bigger fish catches up to him and retrieves his hat; the book does not reveal the fate of the little fish. ==Reception== ''This is Not My Hat'' received favorable reviews including Kirkus Reviews describing it as a "darkly comic haberdashery whodunit." with "sublime book design", Common Sense Media calling it "slyly funny", and Publishers Weekly writing "Klassen excels at using pictures to tell the parts of the story his unreliable narrators omit or evade." and concluding "Tough times call for tough picture books." The Horn Book Magazine found it "Darkly hilarious." while the School Library Journal wrote "This not-to-be-missed title will delight children again and again."
